After landing in Bangalore, India we went through customs (quite an adventure itself), exchanged money, and traveled to our hotel.
We had most of the day to rest, which we all needed after a stressful 20 hours in the air. That evening we met Maya Menon and Indira Subramanian from the Teacher Foundation. They gave us an introduction to the Indian Education System.
The next day, we had our first school visit at the Vasanthnagar Government School. It was very jarring to see a few of the small children walking to school with no shoes on. Most of the students wore variations of a school uniform, although some were threadbare and slick with wear. The classrooms were dim due to no indoor lighting. The students work by the light coming into the open windows and doors.
