Single Digits until Triple Digits!

At the moment, India is suffering from a heat wave that has killed hundreds of people.  The daily temperature there has exceeded 111degrees.  I hope the Indian nation can soon find relief from the scorching heat. This weather creates added stress for those of us that will be submerged into this balmy environment in a mear nine days!

A long journey ahead...

Let's get it started!
This my first post on my first blog.  Wow, its really much harder than I thought it would be.  I hope someone out there finds what I write about interesting.  I am a biology and physical science teacher at Nicholas County High School in Summersville, West Virginia.  Next month, I will travel to India with the Teachers for Global Classrooms 2014-2015 Cohort.  The TGC program promotes global education to make our students competent, global citizens.

Dr. Feel-good!
I made the mistake of getting all my recommended vaccines at once.  Three in one arm, three in the other.  Four of those muscular shots and the other two were cutaneous = wicked sore arms for days.  That's not the bad part.  It was the mono-like symptoms that followed for several days: fever, body aches, fatigue...blah!  It was all for the greater good.  I am now ready to face yellow fever, polio, typhoid, hepatitis A, and threw in MMR and TDap for good measure.  We were also advised to pick up a script of malaria pills and unmentionable travel sickness.

Dress Up and Get Down!
If India is on your list of places to visit, you will want to assess your wardrobe before you hop on that international flight.  Showing off those killer legs, six pack abs, and cleavage is a big NO-NO!  In the cities, you might get away with showing your knees and shoulders, but keep in mind that you might be asked to cover up. After doing research and talking to those that have been to India, I have put together a stylish, but modest wardrobe that I hope will keep me cool and comfortable in the insane Indian heat.  Linen cargo pants, sketchers-go walks, sandals, light cotton tops, and scarves are on the top of my clothes pile.  Since our international field work will last about three weeks, we were advised to pack for a week and use our hotels' laundry facilities.  Remember, I have to pack everything in a 50 lb. suitcase and a carryon.  Don't forget all the awesome stuff I will want to buy and bring home over there.
